This is a strangely good book. I can’t describe it any better than that. It has very little to do with the death of the politician called Rex Nhongo.

It is keenly observed representations of very believable characters who are caught up in marital dynamics that blur lines and test the limits of patience while exploiting and highlighting the differences between the privileges of members of an expatriate community and the poverty of local Zimbabweans.

It is a strange book that keeps the crime thrill generated by a mysteriously missing gun in the background while letting fragile family dynamics to take centre stage.

A very enjoyable read with an unusual ending.

3.4/5The death of Rex Nhongo
